The Chitwood Covered Bridge is one of the easiest to get to for those traveling the coastal 101 highway. At Newport, mid-coast, head inland on Highway 20. It'll be on your right around 20 miles from the 101. Unfortunately, the setting for the Chitwood has much to be desired.

Ritner Creek Covered Bridge, located 2 miles south of Pedee, northwest of Corvallis on Highway 223; built in 1926 and in 1974 was declared unsafe and bound for destruction; but the students and people of the Pedee area fought to keep it... and won.

On our hunt for bridges, we ran across this private swing bridge that crosses a small creek off Hoskins Road, Benton County, west of Corvallis. Guess my travel partner and I were feeling a little brave this day...to a degree. We saw the bridge and decided to walk it, even though we saw the "private" sign and even though there was a gate at the road. It was a terribly rickety bridge, but we held on and kept going. We were about half way when we saw the "Beware of Dog" sign at the far end. We weren't THAT brave. We turned and high-tailed it as fast as we dared back to the car.

This is the Harris Bridge. built in 1929. It's located in Benton County, west of Corvallis.

Drift Creek Covered Bridge, off Highway 18 east of Lincoln City. This bridge is said to be Oregon's oldest, built in 1914. It was disassembed and re-assembled in 1933, then moved in 1997 from the Drift Creek Rd to its present Bear Creek location.

The Wild Cat Covered Bridge is in Lane County on Highway 126 between Florence and Eugene. It's another very easy one to get to if you're traveling the 126. You can almost see it from the road at the Whitaker Creek/Clay Creek Recreation Area.

A seemingly experienced angler was fishing in the creek under the bridge. According to his car plates, he is from Montana.

The North Fork Yachats Covered Bridge in Lincoln County is 8 miles east of Yachats, off Yachats River Road. The setting of this old bridge, built in 1938, is marvelous. One of the largest, old trees with green moss hanging from every branch is nearby. I tried to capture it with camera, but I just couldn't get the perspective. It was so huge, so old and so mossy.

Nelson Mountain Bridge is also listed as Lake Creek Bridge. It sits off Highway 36 in Lane County. It was built in 1928 at a cost of $3,155.

Deadwood Creek Bridge was built in 1932 and is located off Highway 36 on the Deadwood Loop Road, west of Eugene in Lane County.

Sometimes it's something other than your destination that captures your eye. In this case, this old worn barn interested me. It's located very near the junction of Highway 36 and Deadwood Road west of Eugene.

This old barn made us turn around for a better look. Am so glad we did. It's quite unique with its egg shack . It's located on Highway 36 east of Deadwood Rd in Lane County.
